Sheyenne National Grassland 2026/04/24

I went hiking for the first time in 2026

I had to re-create some of these posts because I lost them. This is my first camping trip of 2026.

I really enjoy the rolling hills of Sheyenne national grasslands. It feels like middle earth. Top two photos are of me, taken by my friend Elliot who by coincidence went camping at the same time as me. We hiked separately though for the solitude. Bottom right you can see the boots I hiked in, which ended up giving me terrible blisters.

More hills and the Iron creek. You can make out some of the horse gates and horse poop we had to dodge while hiking. I wasn't a huge fan of that but what can you do. You can make out the spot where riders bring their horses to water. I took a photo of Elliot hiking a hill on the bottom left. Our campsite where we remained somewhat far apart. My tent actually fell down three times, but we moved into the valley a bit to be protected from the wind. I had freeze dried chicken fried rice, which was really good.

Not too much to note on the way out. I was tired because I slept poorly. The Jacket I'm wearing is a Patagonia Houdini, which is convenient because it'll stuff into itself and zip up into a nice little burrito. I wrote my name in the geocache and left.
